California Department of Fish and Game Hunter's Education Course.

Junior Hunter

The California  Department of Fish and Game's Hunters Education Course is taught by certified NFI Instructors to both junior and adult hunters in Shasta County and surrounding areas. There are three ways to obtain a certification through NFI; Standard two day weekend classes, over three nights and the Home Study Course.

Standard Course-the standard Hunter's Education Course is the traditional course that most hunters have enjoyed for the last 50 years. It is completed over a two day or three night format. NFI employs lively interaction and a disciplined atmosphere conducive to learning the "Hunter's Code".  We believe that Hunter's Education is an important part of America's Outdoors Heritage yet we strive to make the course fun and interesting. The standard two day or three night classes are great for folks of all ages but recommended for kids under the age of 12 years old.
Course Fees: $15.00.

"Today's Hunter in California" Student manuals and workbooks, for students enrolled in NFI courses, can be obtained by visiting your local Department of Fish and Game Field Office. Home Study Course-The 4 hour Home Study Course is designed for the more mature hunter who can study and retain concepts on their own. The 4 hour course is a simple review followed by a certification test.  Although a very popular class, some junior hunter's (under the age of 12) struggle with this class.

Details-The Home Study course has a mandatory prerequisite which must be met in order to authorize the student to attend the course. The student can obtain a Home Study Workbook  and complete it, or visit an authorized web site to complete an interactive course of study where the student will be awarded a certificate upon completion authorizing attendance of the Home study Course.  Authorized web sites can be found on the DFG's Web Page or just simply select a link below.
